Deep Roots Devos

Deep roots & good fruit. Sharing devotionals that help you dive deeper into your faith and produce good fruit.

If you look closely, you can always find miracles in the midst of waiting on “the” miracle, whatever it is you are praying for. But, if your focus is only on the lack, you might miss the abundance of miracles around you.

For a year and a half, my husband and I have been trying to grow our family. We’ve prayed so hard for the miracle of pregnancy. I’m a planner and very impatient. This season of waiting was absolutely NOT part of my plan. I tried to control my way to the miracle, pray my way to the miracle and simply wait my way to the miracle. But my focus was so dialed in to the miracle happening. And I recently was convicted of that.

I started shifting my focus from the miracle to the miracle worker – to Jesus.

When I did that, I received peace. It drew me into his arms, taught me more about Him – and it also opened my eyes to see all the little miracles in the midst of this journey. He taught me to not only pray for the outcome of the miracle I wanted, but for my transformation, refinement and purpose in the waiting for it.

I started praying for signs from Him, for peace, comfort, joy, for deeper trust for direction and purpose… and He answered!! What used to feel like silence each month as I received another “not yet”, felt like steady yesses. Yes, I’ll give you peace. Yes, I’ll give you joy. Yes, I’ll give you signs. Yes, I’m here. He met me right where I was! He showed me that He was in this waiting with me.

Ultimately, he showed me that there will always be another want, another desire, another unanswered desperate prayer. Life is more than just going from one mountain top to the other. It’s the valleys, the climbs and the descents as well. It’s a whole journey. And He’s with us in the midst of it all, not just when He answers the prayer.

When we focus on the mountaintop (the outcome we want) only, disappointment is sure to follow. but if we focus on the mountain mover, our joy is sustained no matter what. In the midst of the valley, the climb and the descent back down!

What miracles in the midst has God been showing you lately?
